AAWA member Jonathan Williams visited Albany Regional Airport on 3 March 2016.
A detachment of nine Pilatus PC-9/As from Number 2 Flying Training School (2FTS) and one RAAF Rescue helicopter (Bell 412EP VH-EPH) deployed from RAAF Base Pearce to conduct flight training from Albany Regional Airport from 21 February to 4 March 2016. 2FTS deploys to Albany once or twice a year to conduct the formation training phase of the Advanced Pilots’ Course.
The visit was also an opportunity to see the newly-introduced Saab 340B aircraft of Rex (Regional Express), which has taken over the Perth-Albany and Perth-Esperance regulated intrastate routes a few days earlier, on 28 February 2016.

Rex took over the Perth-Albany and Perth-Esperance regulated air routes from Virgin Australia Regional Airlines Fokker 50s, on 28 February 2016. VH-ZLF was first flown on 4 Oct 1995 as SE-C74, and delivered to American Eagle as N374AE. It was delivered to Rex on 17 Aug 2007.
