A Boeing 707 of the Israeli Air Force made an extremely rare visit to Perth Airport and nearby RAAF Base Pearce on 22-25 May 2017.

272 (4X-JYV), a Boeing 707-3J6C Re’em (MSN 21096/900) of 120 ‘Desert Giants’ Squadron, Israeli Air Force, based at Nevatim Air Base, Israel, arrived at Perth Airport on 22 May 2017.

The aircraft landed on runway 03 at 11:03am as ‘IAF 401′, arriving from Israel via Mumbai, India.

Even though its Pratt and Whitney JT3D-7 engines are equipped with hushkits, they still made a glorious noise as the aircraft landed.

The visit was reportedly in connection with Israel Aerospace Industries’ (IAI) bid to sell its IAI Heron TP, an armed, turboprop powered, Medium Altitude, Long Endurance (MALE) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to meet Australia’s Project AIR 7003 contract. The RAAF already operates the smaller piston-engined IAI Heron.

The 707 departed Perth Airport at 8:17am the next morning (23 May) for a quick 6-minute flight to RAAF Base Pearce. It departed Pearce at 12:57pm and landed back at Perth at 1:17pm.

It departed Perth on 25 May 2017 at 6:38pm back to Mumbai and Israel.

The aircraft was the 900th Boeing 707 built and was built in 1975, previously registered N48055, 9M-TMS, G-CDHW, A6-HRM, and P4-MDJ.
