The aerial launch for the WA firefighting season was held at Woodmans point, near Coogee on 23rd December, 2014.
Several aircraft were operating in front of the Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner, dignitaries and members of the media.
The first aircraft to do a water drop was VH-DUN Air Tractor AT-802A (MSN 802A-0382) of Dunn Aviation.
This was followed by P2-MBH Bell 214B of McDermott Aviation.
Finally, N154AC Sikorsky S-64E (MSN 64037) Erickson Air-crane named “Georgia Peach” executed a water drop, circled and picked up water using its ram scoop hydrofoil attachment. Using this scoop it can fill its 7,500 litre tank with either fresh or salt water in less than 30 seconds. They then circled and did another water drop before heading back to Serpentine. A very spectacular machine to watch at close quarters.
