VH-NHK Fokker 100 (cn 11465) of Network Aviation

** FIRST VISIT – ON DELIVERY FLIGHT FROM NETHERLANDS **

Another of the ten former American Airlines and Avianca Fokker 100s acquired by Network Aviation is seen here landing on runway 03 at 13:13, on arrival from Jakarta-Halim.

The aircraft was using callsign “Southern Cross 1251”, as it was flown by a crew from Southern Cross International, a provider of aircraft ferrying services.

The aircraft was last operated by Avianca Airlines of Colombia, and during 6-8 Mar 2012, it was flown Cali-Nassau-Halifax-Keflavik-Woensdrecht in Avianca colours, still registered as HK-4430.

Upon arrival at Woensdrecht, it was refurbished by Fokker Services, and allocated Dutch registration PH-AQB for test flights.

On 20 July 2012, the aircraft departed Woensdrecht (Netherlands) via Trabazon (Turkey) and Al Ain (UAE), and arrived at Nagpur (India), where it went unserviceable.

After further maintenance, it was delivered to Penang (Malaysia) on Saturday 28 July, overnighting there before continuing on to Jakarta Halim (Indonesia) and finally to Perth.

VH-SWO Embraer 170 (ERJ-170-100LR) (cn 17000081) of Airnorth

On final approach to runway 21 at 11:51 as flight TL340 from Kununurra.

Airnorth operates Embraer 170s between Kununurra (in the far north of Western Australia) and Perth, a 2.5 hour flight. Flight TL340 from Kununurra arrives in Perth at 12:15, and returns to Kununurra as flight TL341 at 13:00, on Saturdays and Sundays.

This particular aircraft was built in 2005 and registered B-KXA to Hong Kong Express. Re-registered VH-SWO to the now defunct airline SkyAirWorld on 8 March 2007. It was leased to Solomon Airlines for a while in 2007, painted in a colourful blue/green/yellow colourscheme. It was based in Perth for a while after that as a back-up aircraft when National Jet (now Cobham) was undergoing some industrial action.

The E-170 was previously demonstrated to National Jet (now operating as Cobham) as a potential BAe 146 replacement, but they did not take up the type due to high lease costs.

** QATAR AIRWAYS FIRST SERVICE TO PERTH **

Landing on runway 03 at 16:55 as flight QR900 from Doha, with the airline’s CEO Akbar Al Baker aboard, for the inaugural service to Perth.

The aircraft departed Doha at 01:05 Doha local time (06:05 Perth time) and landed at Perth at 16:55, after a flight of 10 hours 50 minutes. It parked at Bay 53 at the International Terminal at 17:00, ten minutes earlier than its scheduled arrival time.

Traditionally, the first service by a new airline is greeted by fire trucks performing a water cannon salute, but for some reason this did not happen today.

However, there was a welcoming ceremony in the International Terminal, and extensive media coverage.

Qatar Airlines CEO Akbar Al Baker was greeted by WA Deputy Premier Kim Hames and Perth Airport CEO Brad Geatches.

A7-BBI is the airline’s 100th aircraft, and wears a Qatar Airways logo denoting this on the nose.
