Flight QF777 from Melbourne, on approach to runway 06 at 4:17pm.
This was Qantas’ first 737-800, which entered service in January 2002. It was originally built for American Airlines as N979AN, but with an industry downturn following the September 11, 2001 terror attacks, they no longer needed the aircraft. The collapse of Ansett Airlines in the same month required Qantas to add capacity rapidly, so it took over American’s delivery positions.
