As a result of the impact of recent natural disasters combined with significantly increased fuel costs, Qantas announced on 29 March 2011 that it is making cutbacks in staff, routes and fleet.
For WA, this includes temporarily halting services between Perth and Tokyo Narita from 8 May 2011- these services are currently operated by Boeing 767-300ERs.
Qantas will also retire two Boeing 767-300ER aircraft earlier than scheduled – one of these is reported to be VH-OGB, which is already advertised for sale.
