8 July 2011: Alliance Airlines has added two Fokker 70 aircraft to their current fleet of Fokker 100s and Fokker 50s.
These 2 F70’s formerly saw service with Malev Hungarian Airlines but were most recent registered 9H-AFS (cn 11571) and 9H-AFZ (cn 11575). 9H-AFS was delivered to Brisbane on 3 July 2011 (see photo on SE Queensland Aviation Blog). 9H-AFZ is due in Brisbane on 9 July 2011.
These will be the first Fokker 70s registered in Australia, and were acquired as they have sufficient range to fly direct, nonstop from the eastern states cities and regional towns to mine sites in Western Australia.
Their media release says “Alliance has already reached agreement with one major customer to operate Fokker F70LRs nonstop from the east coast into a mine site in Western Australia’s northwest, and is in discussions with other companies. The airline also has plans to use the aircraft for a range of other tasks on the eastern seaboard.”
