24 August 2011: Perth Airport has announced that Broad Construction Services (WA) Pty Ltd is the contractor selected to build Terminal WA, the new domestic terminal for Western Australia, at a cost of $120 million.
Construction will commence in the last week of August 2011, with completion due for December 2012. The terminal is is intended for regional, Fly In Fly Out and interstate air services, with capacity for up to 36 aircraft.
Skywest Airlines, Alliance Airlines, Strategic Airlines and Tiger Airways Australia will move to Terminal WA in early 2013. This will free up Terminal 3 for Qantas and Virgin to expand operations. Virgin will later move to a new pier to be built onto the International Terminal.
Terminal WA will include:
- access via a ‘walk-in’ landscaped plaza
- 16 check-in counters and space for new check-in technology, including self service and bag drop
- large central passenger security screening zone
- spacious Departure Lounge
- access to 14 aircraft gates via covered walkways
- three large baggage reclaim belts.
