Etihad Airways is to operate daily flights between Perth and Abu Dhabi from 15 July 2014.
The flights will use Airbus A330-200 aircraft, configured with 22 Business Class and 240 Economy Class seats.
Etihad CEO James Hogan has mentioned services to Perth a number of times in the past, with the 2014 timeframe first mentioned at a press conference in August 2011. It was reported in October 2013 that the airline was planning to commence services in February 2014.
Etihad currently holds a 20% stake in Virgin Australia (to be increased to 21.2%) and has a partnership arrangement, enabling Virgin Australia travellers to book a single ticket from WA towns to Perth with Virgin and then internationally with Etihad, whilst still earning Velocity frequent flyer points. Qantas has a similar partnership with Emirates.
