Qantas’ third Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, VH-ZNC, named ‘Quokka’, made its first visit to Perth today.
The aircraft is named after the small marsupial animals, called Quokkas, which are mostly found on Rottnest Island off the Western Australian coast, near Perth.
Quokkas are very popular with tourists visiting Rottnest, and are often included in selfies. The name Quokka was among the most popular suggestions in a national poll of more than 60,000 entries to name the Qantas Dreamliners.
Direct flights between Perth and London commence on 24 March 2018, operating from Terminal 3, on the west side of the airport.
Qantas’ first two Dreamliner aircraft were VH-ZNA ‘Great Southern Land’ and VH-ZNB ‘Waltzing Matilda’, all of which have visited Perth while operating domestic flights from Melbourne, to build crew proficiency before the international flights from Perth begin.
