The Federal Government Regional Airports Program is a competitive grants program intended to improve the safety of aircraft, operators and passengers using regional airports or aerodromes, to facilitate improved delivery of essential goods and services such as food supplies, health care and passenger/emergency air services.
On 13 June 2020, the Deputy Prime Minister announced $41.2 million in Australian Government funding for 61 projects across regional Australia. In Western Australia, the following projects were funded under Round 1:
- Albany: Resurface runway, taxiway and apron
- Geraldton: Runway 08/26 Surface Renewal
- Jurien Bay: New taxiway, linemarking and lighting
- Manjimup: Runway end safety area (RESA) gradient earthworks
- Quairading: Resurface the apron taxiway
- White Gum: Extend and reseal runway, additional aircraft parking, fencing upgrade
Round two of the Regional Airports Program is now closed and applications are being assessed.
