Travel restrictions/bans imposed
On 1 February 2020, Australia imposed a travel ban on anyone arriving from, or transiting through, mainland China, unless they had been out of the country for 14 days.
On 17 March 2020, Prime Minister Scott Morrison increased Australia’s travel ban to Level 4, telling Australians not to leave the country, and advising Australians wishing to return home to do so as soon as possible, as many countries around the world introduced border closures and/or travel restrictions, including Australia.
From 20 March 2020, all non-residents and citizens were banned from entering Australia.
