Flight 3L9511 from Kunming (China) via Hanoi (Vietnam) landing on runway 03 at 7:21am. One of several ‘preighter’ (passenger aircraft with seats removed to operate as freighters) chartered by the Western Australian Government to bring thousands of COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) kits, which were issued free of charge to the public.
This aircraft was originally delivered to Singapore Airlines in 1997 as 9V-SJJ, but only operated until 2002 when it was traded in to Boeing as D-AJGP as part of a deal for Boeing 777s. It was then operated by Emirates as A6-ERQ from 2004 to 2013, when it was sold to Hi Fly as CS-TQY. It operated under contract to the Royal Australian Air Force. It was re-registered 9H-TQY in 2021.

9H-MFS first visited Perth on 28 February 2022 and operated several flights from Shenzen, China to Perth. It arrived just after midnight as DB1102 from Shenzen with RAT kits and is seen here at bay 152 before departing empty back to Shenzen as flight DB1103.

This shows the recently constructed large aerobridge ramps that allow passengers to walk along a ramp to the aircraft. Previously, departing passengers had to walk down flights of stairs to get to the aerobridges.
The rounded structure on top used to be an airport operations centre, but this and the eastern half of the Observation Deck has been converted to the Aspire passenger departure lounge. This opened on 10 March 2022, one week after Western Australia’s ‘hard border’ COVID-19 restrictions ceased. Passengers can use the lounge if they pre-book entry from $66 per person online, or walk up from $77 per person.

The Observation Deck is sadly now half its original size. The closed-off area to the east is now the Aspire Lounge.
The Observation Deck has a screen showing departure information and another showing FlightRadar 24 for Western Australia, so you can see aircraft flying in the area.
On the right are a stained glass window depicting the history of flight and a statue of Australian aviation pioneer Sir Norman Brearley, who started Australia’s first scheduled air service in 1921 (before Qantas).

Cathay resumed passenger services to Perth from 1 June 2022.

Arriving on runway 21 on the first of nine freight-only flights during March 2022, bringing COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test kits from Hong Kong as flight CX2171 at 7:23am.
