VH-QQB De Havilland Canada DHC-8-102 Dash 8 (cn 004) of Maroomba Airlines (leased from Skytrans)

** This is the second oldest Dash 8 aircraft in the world ** (the 4th built - the first two Dash 8s were retired and scrapped).

It first flew on 3 April 1984 as C-GGPJ with De Havilland Canada, and was used as a demonstrator aircraft - it visited Australia on a demonstration tour during November 1984 - PHOTO.

It was leased to Air Atlantic from June to October 1988.

In 1989 it became VH-TQO with Eastern Australia Airlines, operating in Australian Airlines colours, with Eastern Australia titles (PHOTO). When Australian Airlines was merged into Qantas, the aircraft was painted in Qantas colours, initially with Eastern Australia titles, but later with QantasLink titles (PHOTO).

It was then traded in to Bombardier on new Dash 8-300 aircraft and in 2005 was sold to Queensland Regional Airlines (later named Skytrans), initially being leased to Airlines of PNG in Papua New Guinea, before commencing its lease to Maroomba Airlines on 19 January 2006.

162178 / 42 Grumman C-2A Greyhound (cn 58) of US Navy squadron VRC-40 Detachment 5, deployed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70).

Taking off from runway 21 at Perth Airport at 11:39. The aircraft arrived the previous day (see photos below), followed by another C-2A, which also departed.

The C-2A Greyhound carries supplies, personnel and mail to and from aircraft carriers operating at sea, a mission known as Carrier Onboard Delivery (COD).

The type uses the same wings and engines as the Grumman E-2 Hawkeye, with a wider fuselage which is equipped with a rear loading ramp.

The first of two prototypes flew in 1964, and they were produced in two batches, 17 during 1965-68 and 39 during 1985-89.

The remaining 36 aircraft from the second production aircraft were refurbished from 2005, with structural, avionics and propeller upgrades. This enables them to remain in service until the year 2027.
